No.  Actually my title should have read, ‘THE MURDER OF SIX MILLION JEWS’.  In our age of unprecedented exchange of information, the world is swallowing the lie that the Holocaust never happened.  Reading a book on occasion, instead of having information overload swirl instantaneously from all over the world, offers a chance of quiet reflection, even when the subject is so dark.  Maybe try to find a copy of ‘The War Against the Jews’ – 1933-1945.

The Netherlands entered World War II on May 10, 1940, when invading German forces quickly overran them. On December 7, 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Netherlands government in exile also declared war on JapanOperation Market Garden, which started in 1944, liberated the southern and eastern parts of the country, but full liberation did not come until the surrender of Germany on May 5, 1945″. –  from Wikipedia

My father was in the Dutch underground while the Nazi soldiers lived in our home.  I was born in 1944.  My mother put the whole terrible business into perspective for me when she would talk about those fearful war years.  My father was in constant danger of being caught and shot.  My oldest sister got caught in a terrifying roundup, in the village, with Nazi soldiers holding a large group of people under the threat of death because one of their soldiers had been killed by the underground.

So mom had good reason to hate these men whom she had to put up in her home, but what I remember most from my mother was how sorry she felt for these young soldiers, who sat at her kitchen table and cried with aching loneliness, like little boys, they longed to be home with their mothers, and loved ones.

Any people group can be brought to a state of soulless automatons, IF they can be broken in spirit, and conformed to obey evil leaders, who demand mindless obedience.  And who among us is any stronger than ordinary Germans were, given the threat to their own lives, if they dared stand against Hitler and his henchmen?

There are plenty of lessons that we should have learned to apply from this horrible event, but a world that called out to God in prayer, for relief from those terrible years, has now marched resolutely downhill.  We, in the western world have had unprecedented peace, freedom and affluence,….. blessings that should have filled us with gratitude and praise to God, but instead the western world has turned it’s back on our wonderful Lord, in droves.

Nature abhors a vacuum, but our souls even more so.  And so we try to fill our emptiness with any number of things, none of which satisfy that spiritual void – that God-shaped void.  “Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in Thee.”  – Augustine

With the election of Justin Trudeau, and the departure of Stephen Harper, has Israel lost it’s last strong national friend, in an increasingly hostile world?  This hostility to the Jews, past and very present, has no rational explanation.  But God will never again allow them to be driven into ovens, or the sea, or whatever horror the world seems to want to inflict on ‘the apple of His eye’.
