Since the arrival of Andrew Holota as editor of the Abbotsford News there has been little to no analysis of our City Hall. We have had the ‘news’ as presented by mayor and council, then obediently simply regurgitated for the community.
The Abbotsford News has received a lot of money from City Hall for pages and pages of ‘city news’. And the Abbotsford News has been the recipient of a great deal of advertising revenue extolling the Abbotsford Heat, a privately-owned hockey team that leaches millions of dollars out of city coffers.
Sadly, for this city, the only other newspaper has been silenced, bought up by Black Press, owner of the subservient Abbotsford News.
The Abbotsford News and City Hall are in each other’s pockets, but the city pocket belongs to the taxpayers. Who will critique City Hall now, for the public good?
